Garlic & Herb Cheese Dip

Garlic & Herb Cheese Dip is the kind of effortless recipe that makes a vegetable platter feel generous and inviting. Creamy, bright with lemon, and packed with fresh herbs, it’s a simple dip that brings flavor and a little decadence to a table of crisp vegetables or crackers. This dip will become a fast favorite.

This version blends soft cream cheese with olive oil, garlic, lemon, and a handful of chopped herbs for a dip that feels light yet satisfying. Chives, parsley, and dill add freshness while a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of flaky salt finish the bowl beautifully.

For spring brunch or Easter entertaining, I love serving this dip alongside snap peas, asparagus, carrots, and radish in goblets. It’s equally at home on a grazing board or next to crostini, where its creamy texture pairs especially well with crisp bread and bright vegetables.

Recipe Notes

This herb-forward dip is designed to highlight fresh spring flavors. The cream cheese base provides richness while lemon juice and garlic keep the dip bright and balanced.

Fresh herbs are essential here. Chives, parsley, and dill give the dip a layered herbal flavor that pairs naturally with vegetables and toasted bread.

I love to serve this dip as part of a larger brunch spread alongside Hashbrown Crust Quiche with Leeks, Gruyère & Chive Oil and a spring salad dressed with Lemon Vinaigrette.

** To serve this in a bowl as pictured double the recipe – using 8 oz of cream cheese will create a ramekin size portion – great for dipping crudité, but for a crowd dredging bread you will want more. **

  1. Add the softened cream cheese to a mixing bowl and mix well to lighten the texture. This can be done by hand (shown here), or with a food processor.
  2. Stir in olive oil, grated garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  3. Fold in the chopped herbs and mix until smooth and well combined, till it has a more whipped feel.
  4. Spoon the dip into a serving bowl and drizzle lightly with olive oil.
  5. Finish with extra herbs and a pinch of flaky salt.
  6. Serve with fresh spring vegetables, crostini, or crackers.

Tips & Tricks

  • Let the cream cheese soften fully before mixing for the smoothest texture.
  • Grate the garlic finely, or use a garlic press, so it blends evenly into the dip.
  • Use a mixture of herbs for the most balanced flavor. Chives really shine here and make it excellent.
  • A drizzle of olive oil just before serving gives the dip a beautiful look. Flaky sea salt is always welcome, too.

Substitutions

  • Greek yogurt can replace a portion of the cream cheese for a lighter dip.
  • Scallions can replace chives if needed.
  • Fresh tarragon can be added for a slightly more aromatic herb flavor.

Make Ahead

The dip can be prepared up to 2 days ahead and stored in the refrigerator. It actually makes the flavors evolve a little more, so a win-win. Allow it to sit at room temperature briefly before serving so the texture softens and the flavors open up again.

Storage

Store leftover dip in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Serving Suggestions

This dip works beautifully on a spring crudité platter or alongside crostini for entertaining. It pairs well with crisp vegetables and fresh herbs, making it a perfect addition to brunch spreads and grazing boards.

Styling Suggestions

For a gathering, serve the dip in a shallow bowl so the olive oil drizzle and herbs remain visible. Arrange fresh, colorful vegetables around the bowl for an inviting, garden-inspired crudité presentation. Or serve simply with crostini, flatbreads, or crackers for an easy dipping moment. For a more formal and fun presentation, create Crudité Goblets (pictured below).
